Cover Design Update

Yesterday's design layouts that I created wasn't quite what I wanted my cover to look like, so I decided to give it another go and try some more possible options. This is a link to my old trial designs to see what I started with: http://lucyashby.blogspot.co.uk/2016/12/page-layout-design.html

I think my favourite layouts are the top two Twiggy covers. This is because it actually relates to the 60's, as Twiggy is a very recognisable model and instantly represents the 60's era. She was also considered a fashion icon of the day, which also relates greatly to the topic of my book.

I also quite like the last design as it does almost look like it was actually made in the 60's and does look old fashioned, whereas the others look a little bit more modern. I would however, try a few more colour options with this design, as I think it could look better in a different colour palette.

Page Layout Design

I started off by researching some 60's book covers, to see what style and rules that they seem to stick to. I found that a lot of them were either fairly simple, or completely packed with pattern, colour and font. Here are some examples that I found:

Next, I created some of my own designs on Adobe Illustrator. These are all potential covers for my interactive 60's fashion book:

I used 60's inspired patterns and bright, bold colours. I also drew some 60's clothing silhouettes, to represent some of the fashion that was popular in this day. These are only trial covers, as I don't particularly like any of them for my book. This is because I think you can tell that the background is actually modern and therefore does not look like it would of in the 60's. I also think that the 'Fashion' font isn't quite right.

Logo Design Activity

Today's activity was to create a logo for my brand, I have done a blog post about my research that I did on this topic and that is what inspired me to create the logos below. Here is my Logo Research Images post.

I downloaded the Adobe Capture app on my phone to create some patterns using one of my logos. I started off with a practice piece which is the first one below. This was using my coloured gel pens and this was the result. The next is using one of my logos that I sketched in my sketch book.

I started off with a few very different designs, then developed each of them into something similar but more professional. For example the swirly font logo, I drew with many different backgrounds and colours to see which works best. My favourite one would probably be the swirly one with the triangle background in a circle. However to improve this, I would get rid of the circle, as I think it would look much simpler and more geometric which I like. I would also add some colour, as well as drawing it much larger and smaller to see how it looks in various sizes.

Research on Perfume Website Design

Here I have got 3 screenshots of fragrance websites for inspiration, as my product is going to be a perfume.

This first screenshot is of Fragrance Direct. This is the on of the simplest out of the three and only uses a very limited colour scheme, which comes across  professional and more high end in my opinion. I think the white, red and black works well. Also the layout is chic and again fairly minimal, so is clear and easy to read.

Here is the second screenshot, this is of the Perfume Point website. This is much more colourful and packed with lots of information. In my opinion, at a first glance this looks quite cluttered and therefore suggests a discounted range of perfumes, rather than the very expensive high end fragrances.

Here is the final screenshot, this is of Juicy Couture's website, on the fragrance tab. I think this is very minimalistic, however the swirly, feminine font makes the website look more interesting and unique. The colour scheme is very bare and is mostly white excluding the actual products, which is very simple and therefore is considered classy and elegant. 

Board Game Designs

My board game design is going to be simple and classic, I have been inspired by black and white boardgames, or ones very limited colour. This is an example of a simple but modern design.

 I think this game design is good for our target audience because if there was too much colour, it could come across quite childish and too cluttered.

Here is a screenshot of a template that I created on Adobe Illustrator, that has a similar style/design that I like.

I also tried the same design but with a different colour scheme, just to see how it looked more bright and colourful.
