Today I have looked into different illustrative styles and what I can use within my paper engineering project. I came across a really useful website and here is a link: http://www.illustrationweb.com/styles
It clearly shows a large variety of different styles and some example next to the topics, making it really easy to understand.
The screenshot above shows the children's category and this style is very colourful and often has a lot going on in the illustration. I found out that in comparison to a more contemporary style, it has quite a cluttered feel and because of this it may mean that for an older audience, it could be interpreted as being messy and over the top.
On the other hand because my pop up is going to be for children, this style would work really well. I would also include different textures in the book to make it even more interesting for my target audience. For example I will use quilling techniques and wool/thread for the characters hair, which would really stand out for a younger audience.
There was also a paper art section which was really useful when researching for this project. Although, this is a lot more complex visually and therefore I would need to make it work for my specific genre and audience, however I could just simplify it slightly.
